RANGE POLYPHENYLENE ETHER - PPE -

Characteristics of the PPE

SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS

Dimensional stability.

Low creep, even at high temperatures.

Very low water absorption.

Good electrical properties.

Very good electrical insulator.

These electrical properties are independent of

humidity and

temperature.

Good hydrolysis resistance.

PPOm present a very good dimensional stability and very low moisture regain.

Low linear dilation coefficient for fibreglass

reinforced grades

PPOm can be glued easily using adhesive,

cyanoacrylate-based

adhesive is most recommended, or polyurethane

adhesive.

Decoration, by screen-printing, electroplating,

vacuum metalising.

PPOm resist well against hot or cold water.

It is resistant to detergents, acid solutions,

alkalines, and alcohols.

It is not resistant to:

- halocarbons (chlorides),

- aliphatic hydrocarbons,

- aromatic hydrocarbons,

- esters, ketones.

Poor resistance to light.

SPECIFIC PROPERTIES

Good rigidity: 2500 N/mm2 for the standard grade

9000 N/mm² for the 30% fibreglass reinforced grade.

Very good impact resistance, even at low temperatures.

Good Rockwell hardness: M78 / R115.

It maintains its mechanical properties to a

temperature of 115°C.

PPOm has an unfavourable friction factor of 0.4.

Glass transition temperature (Tg) of 150°C.

Heat deflection temperature (HDT - 1.8N/mm2)

130°C and 135°C for fibreglass reinforced

grades.

Volume resistivity: 1017 ohm-cm

Surface resistivity: 1014ohm.

Dielectric strength (DIN 53 481) 16 to 24 KV/mm.

Rather low tracking resistance.

PPOm burn with difficulty, they need a continuous

external ignition source.

Their combustion is sooty, they give off carbon

monoxide and carbon dioxide.

They are classified HB according to UL standard

94.

There are qualities classified UL 94 V1 and V0, in

a 1.6 mm thickness, their flame-retardant

additives are not halogenated.
